Here's a long-jawed orb weaver (family Tetragnathidae) from this morning's shooting:

Nice capture of the web. 62 spokes if I counted correct. My spider makes it's web with 30. I want to count several days to see if it varies but need great light to see clear enough.

Came home from a show last night and saw this little green spider just at the edge of the pool of light cast by one of the front porch lights. Though small (about 4mm wide) it stood out against the red brick, even in low light. I've seen similar spiders in browns, oranges and greays, but not in green. Looks like it should be in an orb web rather than on a wall.

It was still there this morning, but had moved to the mortar between bricks, where it blends in a bit better.

With it's legs forward it looks like a tank. Interesting.

Agreed, interesting specimen.

Just a tad too far even for the 300mm Tammy-high up on a pylon

just after commenting on the "tank "spider something crawled up my leg. It was on the side of my calf so I contorted as best I could and tried to get focus through my leg hair and managed a photo I had to heavily crop. I coaxed it on a leaf and it ran off and hid.
I think its a yellow sac spider about 1/2 cm.

Agreed. I've never seen a spider like it. The four-legs-forward posture looks more like a pounce predator than an orb-web spinner, and the legs are rather short, more like a run-about spider than a sit-in-my-web spider. The latter commonly have long to very long legs well suited to climbing amid the silk, but not good for walking about.

The closest thing to it I came across was Araneus bicentenarius. The common name for this is Giant Lichen Orbweaver, but at 3-4mm width, this little critter has a ways to go before it encroaches on "giant" territory. It's a good match for the general colour, and it does have the similar zigzag pattern un the upper side of the abdomen, for whatever that's worth. The cephalothorax of any examples I saw online was much darker than this one, though. I've submitted one of these photos to SpiderID.com.

No photos because in the last 4 days 3 spiny orb weavers have mysteriously vanished. Record heat? Prey? Virus? Perhaps the swarms of tiny things that covered the webs were poisonous? 2 of the 3 had spun new webs and vanished from the middle. There and gone an hour later. I still have 1 about 1mm big.
