Is this harvestman welcome here? As I understand, they're not quite spiders?

Perhaps that should be expanded to "Arthropods that are neither spiders nor insects." Aside from Opiliones, centipedes, millipedes, pill bugs, ticks, scorpions (and whip scorpions and tailless whip scorpions) there is a mind-stretching variety of aquatic (especially marine) arthropods that have no place to post their portraits.

Got a Jumper yesterday at Melville Koppies, and as usual, get it onto my hand, so I can take a couple of shots.

Where I grew up my parents had a little wooden rose arbor that I had to drive through with my bike to get out to the sidewalk. One morning I started through it and was brought to an abrupt stop by an orb web with the spider at its center, right in front of my nose. Harmless of course, but startling and unsettling for a ten year old (or thereabouts).

Post includes a tip for people with arachnaphobia.

I saw this girl one evening on my daily dog walk through the Wetlands of Champions Park I was equipped for birds but didn’t see any.

Tip: When you kill a spider in your house always assume it’s a female. Especially if it’s a large one. Males are often much smaller than females. If you assume the one you killed is a male, you’ll realize that any nearby female is truly terrifying huge.
