Well, I now have a much better understanding, having just finished the excellent history of Group F.64 by Mary Street Alinder. Highly recommended. The Group, such as it was, broadened its ideas rapidly from the original manifesto, so was much more diverse than I had realized.

Wonderful shot--love the "high-water marks" on the cypress trunks.

A question: if you're after the "f64 aesthetic," does that mean a focus stack if you're not running a T/S lens?

Good question. For a near-to-far composition, either that or use the smallest possible aperture. Of course there will be diffraction effects, but at typical web sizes that won't matter. From the Kim Weston video on this page I learned that the famous "Pepper #30" by his grandfather was shot at an even smaller aperture than f/64, I forget what. He had to make a custom aperture for it. But then Edward Weston's prints were generally contact prints; diffraction wouldn't be an issue.

Thanks for elaborating--I'd remembered a similar, swampy scene of yours where you'd used stacking to good effect and was wondering if you had a streamlined workflow. I've not tried FS yet, but it gives me as good an excuse as any to keep adding K-series lenses to the stable.

I'll look forward to the videos as well--no doubt the Web doesn't do justice to the classic print guys, but I'm sure there will be lots to appreciate.
