Single in August 2013

Welcome everyone to this monthís Single Challenge.

Aim of the Game:

To post one picture every day that has been taken with a Pentax or Ricoh camera mounted with your choice of lens - but it must be the same lens for each post during the month Ė thatís why itís called a challenge! (You can take as many pictures as you want to each day, but only one of them can be posted to the challenge. You can take pictures with other lenses too, but these shots arenít eligible to be posted to the challenge).

Posting your picture each day allows other participants to comment on your photograph; conversely, itís hoped that you will comment on those of other members. Please donít be shy - itís a very friendly group and even though membership changes a bit from month to month, youíll soon be enjoying the camaraderie.

The rewards:

Itís great fun, but as the month progresses it often becomes quite demanding (itís a challenge, remember). Youíll learn heaps about how your chosen lens can perform and youíll see what other members achieve with their own selected lenses - sometimes the same one youíve chosen. And in the comment banter youíll pick up many tips on photographic technique generally, including post processing.

How to participate:

1. First you need to join the Group to be able to post; you only have to do this once. The groupís name is ďMonthly Photo ChallengesĒ. Youíll find a clickable link on that page to join.

2. Youíll need to have your pictures stored in an on-line album. This could be the Pentax Forum, or others such as Flickr, Picassa etc. You actually post a link to the picture in your album into the daily thread.

** If you are linking to a Pentax Forum album, youíll find advice on how to post elsewhere in the Forum and in the FAQs below. One of the Challengeís stalwarts, patjp, has also prepared a short video on how to do this - youíll find it on YouTube (
)

** If you are posting a link to Flickr, just click on the sharing icon below your selected picture and a window will open displaying the BB code. Copy it and paste into the Single in (month) Challenge thread in the Pentax Forum.

Each day, youíll see a new thread of pictures grow and by clicking on each you should be redirected to the parent album where you will be able to add a comment and read those of others.

The thread youíre painstakingly reading now is the Discussion Thread for Game > Single in (month).
This is separate to the picture posting thread and youíll probably want to subscribe to it to keep up with activities and develop a rapport with Challenge members. Itís the place where you can ask questions, offer advice, share concerns, suggest improvements, and often just participate in general banter related to this monthís challenge.

So there it is. It is easier than it might seem at first encounter. After a few days youíll be an expert. If you miss a day, donít worry. If you have any problems, please ask. Weíre a very friendly, forgiving, international bunch. Come and try!

FAQs: Finally, Zorglub has kindly posted a FAQ collection here Ö. https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/groups/102-monthly-photo-challenges/711-faq.html

Well played Rod.

I have pretty much settled on breaking out the Big Bazooka for August. I have had the DA*300 for a while, but due to its size it usually gets left out of the camera bag. The rare times I have made the effort I have not regretted it.

I suspect most of my shots will be around the house, as dragging it into work might turn a few heads. I will try to get better acquainted with the local bird life: a photographic skill I have never tried to develop. I also intend to bung it on the Q for some ultra-telephoto madness: another major gap in my education.

LOL, I can just envisage you in theatre with the beast!
Overall though - an interesting choice - expecting some quite different shots. Sounds good.

I haven't decided yet. I was thinking my Sigma telephoto but I'll be travelling for the last few days of August so I think it'll be something lighter, or I might use the DA*16-50, since that's been my travel workhorse. We'll see.

I have decided the macro work isn't working as I hoped so I'm going with my trusty Sigma 70-300mm Macro on a tripod. It's going to get hot here soon and the bugs and such will be lurking in the shade. I'll be mostly birding.

This will probably be the only month I can join because of my eye surgery will take up the better part of fall shooting.

I am going to try shooting with the Pentax-M 120mm f2.8, hoping I still like it on August 31.

Wrong theatre I guess... Check 20 sec's in... I think its a 50-135

I think I will just watch - but you never know, I've never done a month with my K300/4 and LR4 is dandy at PF/CA correction.

Hello again.

I wan't to join this little game again. I have been boiling up some Ideas, but not 100% sure of lens choise...might be my good old DA*55...or then little wider AT-X PRO 235. I have b een also pondering of getting a set of filters for my set, maybe a cokin set of gradual ND, ans some colored ones too... Landscape shooting... Have to think about that.

Life has been super crazy at work lately and it is not likely to let up for months but I have not been taking my camera out much lately so I thought I would have a go at August. I do have a week off so that should help. Unfortunately many of my regular local photo haunts have been rendered impassable by June's serious flooding so you may get a healthy dose of daisies and day lilies! As for lens choice I am currently leaning toward my DA 21. I don't use it as much as the DA 15 and I although I have used it twice for past challenges, both were winter months.

Go for this one Joe; Sandy's contributions this month have tempted me to buy one

Oh, I just found this game
It seems very cool to me.
I'll try to use my DFA 50 macro for my first month
It's 50/easy and macro, and I just bought it so looking forward to use it more.

And now I'm really excited about this August.

So, I have made up my mind. I'll do this single in with my Tokina AT-X PRO 20-35/2.8.

I'll be using cokin filter system with it(I have been wanting to try that for long time now, and this was a good excuse of buying one set for my self..). So my subjects will be nature + urban. And clouds too...since that is why I wanted GND.s in first place.

I hope that my set will be here soon...
