Ha! Hiding from?

I recently visited the Panorama amethyst mine, found by mistake while they were cutting a road into a fire tower:

Two very different "bones" of the Earth. The first is the bleak landscape created by a major modern volcanic eruption on Iceland. Lichens coat all of it, creating a sort of fuzzy look. In the second image there are several ammonites, not really extractable from the matrix, along the "Jurassic coast" of England.

I've seen images in several geology texts of this section beside a parking lot in the restored ghost town of Calico. Both folding and faulting well displayed.

I think this might be a different "High Falls" in Algonquin Park - this one is in the southern panhandle.

ON the York River.... we were there a few years ago.

There's another High Falls in Algonquin on the Barron River, and at least 2 more in central Ontario that I know of. You would think that the people who named them would have a bit more imagination!

Interesting erosion in (as I recall) the Navajo SS.

A nicely exposed syncline. Among friends concerned with geology, they always questioned how anyone could study the rocks in the northeast where "they're all covered by a jungle." BTW: The vehicles @ lower right were a geology class from a local college out on a field trip. If they cannot wrap their minds around a syncline here, what hope?

A polished ammonite. Were it a piece of a mosasaur that probably fed on these, it would truly be a "bone" of the Earth,

Time to bring this thread back to life. As a geologist I'm fascinated by the rock cycle whereby materials are formed into rocks, and how rocks are broken down into sediment. And because I'm working on a project about sand, it was natural to shoot...

Sand, Sandstone, and the Rock Cycle Silica-cemented sandstone atop glacially transported and reworked sand from eroded gneiss, probably, northern Adirondack Lowlands. Cross-posted with P52
