A bit of the Earth's bones that has fallen out of place. Most of the sunlight reaching the rock is reflected from surrounding foliage, hence the greenish cast (the rock is actually grey or slightly sandy-yellowish). If I reduce the green saturation to get natural color on the rock, the leaves in the picture go as dull as yesterday's dishwater, It might be best to convert this image to B&W.

Primarily stalagmites, one close to being a pillar, one at far right might touch the ceiling.

The riverbank opposite the side I live on. The river was running high the last few days, as we have had lots of unseasonable rain. The white specks in the sandstone are clam shells. I find them in the chunks of sandstone broken off each year by erosion.

One year I had a complete clam, both halves of the shell, looking like I had just dug it up. I carefully brushed away the sandstone and set it on the porch. Later that same day I walked by and it had crumbled away to a pile of white powder.

Clearly not petrified, but it has been a very long time since these clams were living creatures.

More the blood of the Earth than its bones, getting near the surface and heating things up.

Rocks along the Larapinta Trail, NT, Australia. These are nothing compared to the ones you have to navigate on the trail itself.

The red rock of the MacDonnell Ranges in Northern Territory, Australia. A few weeks out here and red dust is in everything.
