Pondering the tectonic forces evident in that formation is mind-bending (no pun intended). Incredible!
Many thanks! The road is a little exciting. Flooded occasionally and subject to seaside cliff avalanches....

Yeah, maybe the first! I couldn't get up there to see but the "white" cliff layer was definitely softer and not quartzite.

This might not win any photographic prizes, but these are some of the oldest rocks on the surface of the earth; the range in the background is about 1.6 billion years old.

These rocks are mere babies by comparison; only 600 million or so years. My mighty wife is somewhat younger.

Australia has exceptional rocks of great age, especially considering that some contain fossils, but the oldest rocks exposed on the Earth's surface are in the Canadian Shield. Some around Hudson's Bay have been dated to 4.28 billion years. I personally like to state that as "about four and a quarter thousand million." To beat a dead horse (or a very dead pre-Cambiran fossil), the Canadian rocks are much more than twice as old as those in the Flinders Range.

Maybe so ...... but do they look pretty ?

Just got back from Wilpena Pound ( 600 million years old ).

Beauty (= "pretty") as they say, is in the eye of the beholder. Although we did not get to the Flinders Range during our Australia trip, from pictures I've seen I would agree that the rocks in Australia are in some manner more appealing. Much of the Canadian Shield, especially when you get to the north shore of Hudson's Bay, is very bleak (BTW, I only know that region through pictures as well)

Bones along the coast of Oahu. If you look at the the small headland just past the beach there is water squirting up through a blowhole (hence the parking lot above it). I got the impression that all of Hawaii is underlain by geology, most of it volcanic bones.

Indeed, it is. The islands sit above a "hot spot" plume in the Pacific Plate, tectonic movement of the plate can be inferred from the location of each island.

580 to 541 million year old Pre-Cambrian fossils
Ediacaran fossils (pre-Cambrian) fossils at Mistaken Point, Newfoundland. There are only a score or so sites around the world where these can be found and the Mistaken Point site has more diversity than other sites. None of these fossils belong to evolutionary lines that still exist, though some researchers think that some of the fossils here may be protosponges (not these three). For over a half billion years old, the level of detail is rather amazing.

A trail through Earth's fossils. During the Modoc War the Modoc had a strong point near where I'm standing with the only reasonable approach along this trail. Easy to defend, near suicide to assault their position. The basaltic lava is not terribly old, about 15~17 my.

Tufas (calcium carbonate), a common sight in the Great Basin. These are The Needles at Pyramid lake in Nevada.

Some sense of scale

Spillway of Pomme de Terre Lake in MO. I believe this is a man made rock cut, but has had time to weather and look a little more natural.
