That's a cool outcrop. Never have seen anything quite like that here in the Adirondacks. Now birds have sheltered nesting spots, eh?
I did not notice any nesting birds within the cavities (though I wasn't really looking for them), I suppose these make for easy access by predators, such as lizards and snakes, which might discourage nesting.
To continue with WPRESTO's theme of Zion, here's one of what I think were called the Patriarchs. Yes, these dune sands are Mesozoic in age (Jurassic ~ 180 mya), and is known as the Navajo Formation.
