Overtime as I come across these threads, I find they've got the same old customers. Doesn't anyone of the fairer sex participate in these?

Anyway, these two were taken with a 2 MP camera back in the early 90s, then cropped and enlarged, so resolution is not up to current standards. The first is of Denali, which has a lot of rock under it. the second is of Devil's Claw and the terminus of Mendenhall Glacier, which is located right in the middle of the frame.

Twin Rocks - such a clever name - material once well below, now somewhat above the Earth's surface.

Indeed, some of us do. I'll post some "bones" when I shoot some... not too many in south Florida!

I don't think of Florida as having much outcropping geology, so I was surprised to see the rocks in the first image down in the vicinity of the Treasure Coast, and during a visit to the Keys a limestone quarry with corals all over the cut wall.

You bet. Like me. I started this thread. (For some reason I can't edit the first post to return the lost images there.) Here are a few river potholes, a particular interest of mine. I've even written about them in my weekly column a couple of times. This first photo is of...

River Potholes That Can Swallow a Paddler

And in the next pair, of the same pothole but different perspectives, you can see...

A High and Dry Pothole and...

Nice to know this isn't just a guy thing...

Tafoni - unlike river-carved potholes, these may have formed from in place weathering of salt crystals, at least when they occur in arid environments. Photo taken at Chaco Canyon NP, New Mexico.

I've been a rock-head all my life and last I looked I'm still a girl. That's a cool outcrop. Never have seen anything quite like that here in the Adirondacks. Now birds have sheltered nesting spots, eh?

I did not notice any nesting birds within the cavities (though I wasn't really looking for them), I suppose these make for easy access by predators, such as lizards and snakes, which might discourage nesting.

To continue with WPRESTO's theme of Zion, here's one of what I think were called the Patriarchs. Yes, these dune sands are Mesozoic in age (Jurassic ~ 180 mya), and is known as the Navajo Formation.

More red rock in southern Utah, but I don't think this is Navajo SS. Geology is really prevalent in Utah.

"Sentinels in the Mist" Sedona, AZ. The rock is actually red, but the image is much more dramatic in monochrome.

Tried to revise the post to say I thought it looked like Kayenta, but apparently I forgot to his the save changes button. I'll have to track down where the image was taken - that will put us at the right layer in the column.
