These little outcrops are pretty common around here.

Chimney Rock State Park in NC. Taken with the HDR mode on the K-3. It is interesting but I think it looks over-processed.

HDR can do wonderful things, but can do odd things with colors. Sometimes you need to add back general contrast, mid-tone contrast, black and saturation to make the image look normal. When I have an odd-looking image I always try the "autotone" in PS to see what it will do. Sometimes it's a bust, but sometimes it will clear up and add snap to an image.

Thanks for the tips. I tried a few things, here is another version. Actually auto color correction helped (I don't use this setting very often) and a couple others I can't remember now.

That looks pretty good on my laptop monitor. I might experiment a bit with pulling down the black slider in LR a bit more to see what is would look like, or maybe fiddle the darkest tones in the "levels" adjustment in PS. Not sure it would improve the image, but at the moment my impression is that the shaded areas don't go quite dark enough. They're a little too "open." HOWEVER, all images look better on my big desktop monitor than on this little laptop.

Yeah, some spider-man guy with a big hammer and chisel

Here is a night shot from last September (mediocre Iphone shot - made the poor decision not to take a real camera on that trip). looks like you were there in July?

Yes. On the trip back home from Arnold we took an extra day travel time and enjoyed the ride.

That is one of my favorite places I have lots of photos from my film days of the Shut-Ins, but I have not found the time to digitize them yet.

Here is one from 2009 on a P&S, probably the last time I was at Johnson's Shut-Ins. This was 4 years after the Taum Sauk reservoir failed and flushed out the Shut-Ins and destroyed the campground and many other amenities. I was down there to tour the reconstruction of the Taum Sauk reservoir and had a chance to make a quick stop by.

I've been there many times in the past but 2 years ago, when these were taken, was the first time since the wipe-out.
