Funny, as a native flatlander I find those vistas strangely beautiful, fascinating, compelling... and totally alien

This is the Hill Canyon region of Ventura County, Calif. I find the area fascinating.

Be careful out there in the heat that's settled on the west. One of the first things that goes when hyperthermia sets in is your mental functioning. You get confused and stop being sensible about what is happening to you.

But that's my normal state, Walt! Seriously, point taken. Fortunately, the temps here are topping out at only 85F or so (for now), and I always wear my big floppy hat and bring enough water.

Bones with holes in them. This famous double arch is called "The Spectacles." How ever did they come up with that name? BTW: Several tourists standing the right hand arch provide scale.

QUESTION: I'm working on my laptop, and on its screen this image looks flat = it needs more contrast. Working on my desktop computer with its larger and pretty expensive screen this image had good "snap." How does it look to anyone willing to comment?

I'm on the big desktop now, with its separate monitor, and on this scream it looks as I intended (it should as this is where I did the PP on it). My little laptop just does not do justice to any posted images, whether mine or from another Pentaxian.

Looks good on my laptop screen, Walt. I have no desktop at present, so everything passes through my laptop, which is a middle-aged Toshiba running W7 Pro (Luddite that I am, they will have to drag me kicking and screaming to any W10 machine). I have no idea what the upload algorithms are for PF, but I have noticed, on occasion, that images which look fine and sharp here on the Toshiba don't look quite so fine and sharp once posted. Monitor calibration doubtless makes a difference but I don't think it's applicable to most (non-high-end) laptop screens. Anyway, your image looks good to me. Interesting "bones", thanks for sharing!

Pondering the tectonic forces evident in that formation is mind-bending (no pun intended). Incredible!
