As the winner of a Weekly Challenge, I had the honor of choosing a topic for the following week's Challenge. I chose a topic that I thought everyone could shoot, and which might have wide appeal -- The Earth's Bones. As it happened, there were
20 excellent entries in that contest. One of the entrants, Dan/Audiobomber, commented in that thread, "We need a whole new thread where we can post lots of Earth's Bones photos." Because of the number of superb entries, I couldn't help but agree with him. So that's what this is about, and I'll start by posting the three pictures I used as examples in that contest.
Some background: In a former life I was a geologist, and even now that I no longer make my living hammering flakes of rock from outcrops, wherever I go I am drawn to rock formations
in situ, in their natural location. Apparently I'm not alone in my fascination with rocks. So that's what this thread is about. Show us what the earth's bones are like where you live or where you've traveled. Impress us all with their beauty and their character.
