Guess what guys? My rose got into Explore. See what happened was I went to the Pentax Group on flickr yesterday and loaded some photos up. Seems being in the group is what I needed to do.

I think I have explored the comparison between my SDM and screw-drive DA*16-50's about as far as I can. They are both excellent. My gut feeling is to keep the one converted to screw drive and sell the one with the upgraded SDM.
What would the members think of me switching for the rest of the month to the 02 zoom on my new Q7? The field of view is theoretically almost identical to the DA*16-50 on APS-C (about the same as a 24-70 on full frame)....

Wow! I totally missed this thread! I'm having a lot of fun with this challenge, and I'm learning a lot about my el cheapo Chinar 35. Everyone is posting some really great images too. Happy to get to know you folks through your lenses!

Hi there Sandy, nice seeing your shots with the DA*16-50(s), I've recently acquired one as well(already converted to screw drive), how do you find the extreme edge performance? I found that the one that I have image towards the extreme left edge of the image @16mm to be rather blurry, even stop down to f8 doesn't cure the problem, most noticeable in near infinity/scenic shots, seeing that you have 2 copy of the lens would you kindly comment on this?

For the tech-heads, I reckon the 02 is a little wider than than the DA*16-50. Here are three shots taken from exactly the same spot: I reckon with the slightly squarer format of the Q7, the 02 gets as much horizontally as the DA15, and more vertically.
Although I have corrected the purple fringing in these shots, the 02 fared better than the two far more expensive lenses.
Its central resolution is nowhere near as good as the others, possibly in part due to diffraction @ f/8.0, but its edge sharpness was much better than the DA15 (which is notorious for this problem, but I wonder if my copy is worse than average....)

DA*16-50 @ 16

02 @ 5

DA15

Oh yeah, it would seem the hood for the 02 was designed for the angle of view of the original Q. With the Q7 it cuts off the corners significantly

02 @ 5 with hood!

As long as you are having fun, there won't be any problem.

Agreed

I'm tempted to see what you pull off with that combo anyways

Anyone else who owns the DFA 50mm Macro notice that colors and contrast compared to other Pentax lenses is muted? I find myself pushing the contrast slider and vibrance slider quite a bit more than usual to get my images where I like them.

I may do a 50mm comparison later this weekend just to see if I'm off my rocker or not...
