These are a Before and After of Rushcutters Bay, Sydney Harbour. The B&W and second colour picture with a Kodak Retinette in 1961. The two lower colours with a K5 & 18/55 in 2012

Picking up on the 'record' aspects mentioned above, looking through these photos especially those from 'the colonies' (sorry!), it is truly heartbreaking to see how so many of the cars from the 50s and 60s were British (note the Vauxhall in the last but one above). We (British) had a captive market in the Commonwealth became complacent, produced rubbish cars and then the Japanese came along. The rest is history unfortunately. Probably same story for US car industry.

Love the names of the busses. You were surely tempting the Gods! These are a lovely record of the good times and attitudes of those years. These may well be worth doing a decent scan on. Thanks for the contribution.
That bus had a hole in the floor for the "john", no air, leaked in the rain and had to be push started!!!

This is a K5 picture of a projected slide taken in 1961/2 with a Retinette and Kodachrome. It is St Kilda Street in Melbourne. Victoria.

Crimson Rosellas at Green Mountains in Lamington National Park in 1985. This was one of my first visits to Green Mountains - in the past I had generally been to Binna Burra. Shot on Kodachrome 64 with a Chinon CE4s. Not 100% certain which lens but I suspect it was actually the Makinon 28mm. I scanned the slide today on the LS30 and tried to correct the colour in PP. The Kodachrome is very blue, but the LS30 tends to blow out red. The grass still isn't quite a natural shade of green.

I know it isn't the purpose of this thread to demonstrate software or photo restoration techniques, but I wanted to show what a difference a single checkbox in Vuescan makes.

This is the effect of the "restore fading" feature in Vuescan. The film is Agfachrome, which I only used once because it had an odd brown tint - I believe that it was intentional so that photos taken in Europe looked warmer. The film has also faded badly since 1985. Vuescan restored the colours with a single click.

Behaviour will vary from photo to photo, as well as depending on the film - but it's well worth a try. Saves a lot of fiddling in PP and Vuescan gets to work with the maximum number of bits.

Regarding RobG and his Agfa comment, last year I had 9500 assorted (manufacturer) slides scanned, half of which I 'outsourced' to a professional. He agreed with my observations that the longevity of common slide film seems to go, with best at the top....

Ektachrome
Kodakchrome 64 and 25
Fuji
And last by a long way, Agfa.

That is very impressive. My Canon scanner came with Photo Studio, and I haven't seen a "one click" on it.
