More than that, it would be cultural vandalism, and not the first time anywhere either.

Sailing to Fiji

Hi

Here are some scans from 1974 when I was sailing from Sydney to Fiji with a crew of four.
These pics were taken with my ROBOT cam which is a 24x24 format camera. I also had a Praktica Nova 1B with me but I donated this camera to Neptune at a very early stage of the trip.

I still own the ROBOT, can't bear to part with it.

Greetings

Is that Rushcutters Bay you are anchored at? Interesting pictures from that little 3 element lens. I am similarly attached to my Retinette 1A. With so few glass surfaces, coating was less important. Centre sharpness can be very good with these triplets.

I've only just discovered that this thread exists. It's been pure bliss to browse through the pages, and it looks like we all did just fine back in the days before autofocus and autoexposure and chimping. Here's a couple from my own early days of photography back in the eighties, all taken with my beloved bombproof K1000 that I still use today sometimes.

Stonehenge in 1986 on Kodachrome 64:

Fog on the River Dart in 1987 on Agfa 200 slide film (I must have been experimenting--very unusual for me to use anything other than Kodachrome in those days. Either the colours have shifted or I must have used a filter):

Manhattan skyline in 1989 on Kodachrome 64:
The skyline shot of NYC is great.

Good honest old fashioned picture. No depth of field artifacts or slow-speed water effects. Lovely shot.

I don't think I've posted this before. Discovering an old Voigtlander camera which my father had, was one of the things which really got me keen about photography.

Standard Vanguard it must have been nearly new. Look at the car at the far left, it must be a Twenties vehicle.

What's the car in the middle of the road behind the Vanguard?

As long as there's beer, they'll find a way to get to the pub.

Historic records, an important part of photography. Interesting pictures.

I think so. There was a massive flood in Brisbane, and I believe the Clarence River flooded as well. The biggest floods on record in Australia as far as I know were in 1880 (thereabouts), or at least in central Queensland. There is a marker for the flood level in Taroom which is a long way up the main street and a very long way from the river. The thing is, most of the region is very flat, so to get the flood waters to that height, the area of land inundated must have been astonishing. The marker is at a point which would have had the top of the roof of the pub at the bottom of the hill well under water.
