"Liverpool Waterfront" - "The Three Graces" - the Royal Liver Building, The Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building

Photo 1 of 2

In 1984, with the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral prominent in the background. The Cathedral is prominent in this image but not in the later one partly due to later building construction, but also partly to the different position on the river from which the images were taken and the resultant different focal length of the lenses used.

Originally photographed using either a Pentax SPII or MX camera on slide film.

I like that you did a before and after. It makes for interesting comparisons.

I've decided to get serious about scanning and processing my old film shots. This is the start. My camera was a Pentax SP500 with Super Takumar 55mm F2 kit lens, purchased new in 1971. I still have that camera and lens.

These two shots were taken on a trip to visit my Grandparents in St. Andrews New Brunswick in 1973.

The first shot is the mouth of the St. Croix river with the USA on the other side. (The river forms the border.)

The second shot was taken at Blacks Harbour New Brunswick, (not far from St. Andrews.)

That was my first camera and lens too, purchased new in 1973. And a fine lens it was too. Mine was stolen in 1979 along with the three Vivitar lenses I had added, which allowed me to upgrade to an MX with M lenses. But I still would like to see the photos on the film that went with the camera…

Those were the days, when 1/500 was fast, and 1/1000 was exotic. Buying a Spotmatic in 1971 was out of my budget.

Slide taken by my friend Tony Rook to illustrate a lecture on the boundaries of the parish of Welwyn, July 1969. No idea as to camera or lens but shot on Kodachrome. I could probably do a better job of getting the colours right.

I have now found out that this is the view up Digswell Hill towards the Red Lion pub.

Signal box on the Luton and Dunstable line which has long been demolished and the line ripped-up. The slide was taken in 1969.

A couple more shots from my 1973 trip to St. Andrews New Brunswick. SP500 + ST 55

This first shot is Passamaquoddy Bay, and the second shot was from a day trip I took into the interior.

Excellent… always great to see shots of “The Sled,” in any setting especially while it was still active.

Here's one I took with my SP1000 and processed in my basement darkroom back in 1975. It's the Panama Limited at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal and has always been one of my favorites. Look closely and you can see the spectral image of a chef through the door window of dining car Silver Gladiola. Someday I will get a new scanner that doesn't leave tracks on the scans.

But not a real Humber! That nearest car is a re-badged Hillman Super Minx estate with different front end styling and no doubt better internal trim. My father had the one of those Hillmans and I learned to drive in it. The last "real" Humbers were the Super-Snipe Series V made until 1967, the limo version Imperial, and the smaller engined Hawk. They dwarfed the Hillman. I had a beaten-up Super-Snipe V estate in the 1970s, a totally inappropriate car for a 20 yo but I carried a lot of stuff around.

This was my GF at the time on the bonnet, taken with a Wirgin-Edina 35mm which was old by then and had a light leak that spoiled every other photo
