Thank you Racer - not sure they got to Wyoming but the same idea had occurred to me. They spent a lot of time in the Colorado, New Mexico and Texas areas as far as I can tell from the photos, then went through Canada and then upstate New York just going by the recognisable images.

There are also the buttes in Monument Valley, but that is in Arizona.

There is the Pawnee Buttes in Northeastern Colorado. Maybe that is where the photo was made.

It looks like this picture was taken in July 1963

Accident: Rivière Aux Tonneres, QC. 50°21’N 64°50’W. 23-Jul-1963. On amphibious floats, during the landing roll on apparently unsuitable surface, the nose wheels dug into sand and the aircraft nosed over. Two DoT employees on board uninjured. Substantial damage to the aircraft.

I guess my Dad is taking the picture. I am not sure if he was flying the plane or was there to inspect the accident.

Shot on Kodak color film (probably 100ASA color film), with a Ricoh XR2S, with a Vivitar 90-230mm f4.5 Close Focusing Auto Zoom lens.

Copied with a Pentax K5IIs, and A50mm f1.7 lens with a Pentax Auto Bellows M and Slide Copier For Auto Bellows M.

Then something weird happened.

Death rays began shooting from it.

I snapped a quick picture and ran for my life.

That is probably the best use of a zoom at a slow shutter speed that I've ever seen.

Thanks for the comment.

I made both exposures hand held, resting my elbows on the roof of my car. Back then there wasn’t the immediate feedback like we have today with digital cameras, so I had no idea what I would get.

When I had the film developed it was a pleasant surprise to see the results.

It is funny you say that. That was always the pleasure I derived from photography....shooting a roll of film and then not knowing the results until a week later. Then...the surprise (or disappointment) of what came back.

I still get plenty of enjoyment from digital. Processing images to get the most from the exposure, joining multiple shots into a panorama, stacking nighttime shots of the stars, focus stacking . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . . . the digital darkroom is awesome!

So many more creative possibilities than the darkroom of film days.

The car in the foreground is a '65 Chevy Impala convertible, the one in front of it -- that's tough. Maybe a 60s Mercury? Or a 70s Toyota? And the one in front of that, I have no idea.
