I am making mental notes about why I am not keeping shots, especially since I will be able to go back to many of those places and try again.
I am also starting to delete 'duds' rather than keeping every single shot I take. Partly because my disk space is getting super super full, and partly because I just don't think I will ever have the time to go through every shot I've taken and PP them to something acceptable. And honestly, once you've picked the keepers.... what on earth am I going to do with the not quite there ones? Still not 100% ruthless, but I'm getting there.

BigTed - hope you get to go home soon away from the prying dr's eyes. I agree with rob. Being 'fascinating' is a skeeery thing!

So I thought I would post a quick update. While I'm still in hospital I'm doing much better than this time last week. I have quite a team of doctors who find me to be a facinating case. I'm learning that this means they don't have a clue why I came to the hospital in breathing distress. Some things have been fixed for now so I can go home soon, further investigation is needed to understand why and this will be done on an outpatient basis. I hope to home by the end of the week so I get on playing with my K-3.

Thank you all for you encouragement and support it was very heartwarming!
Good to hear things are improving. Sucks to be fascinating though; I hope you're boring again soon.

For those who don't know the artists in my 8/12 pic (which would be pretty everyone outside of Australia and quite a few here too) they are Busby Marou. A local duo who have done well in the last couple years. Originally hailing from just up the road from me Rockhampton, QLD. This was a free concert put on by Nhulundu Health Services that specialise in helping the local Aboriginal community.

They were playing one of my favourite songs, Underlying Message as the finale.

Treat yourself and have a listen...

Busby Marou are a delight. Their song "Biding My Time" got a fair bit of national airplay not too long ago.

That they are. They were great with the small crowd that was was there. Lot's of kids and they were having fun with them at the front of the stage. I like their cover of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun for Triple J's "Like A Version"

Good to hear you're about to get back home soon! It will be nice to see how you handle that K-3! I hope they figure out what needs to be done so you can stay away from that place as long as possible! Good luck!

The great news is that you are stable enough not to have to be in the hospital any longer. The not so great news is that they still need further "investigation". It sounds like you have something fun waiting at home to explore, though.
Take care,
Edith

Stevi, it's great news that you're feeling better and heading home soon. Put that K-3 through it's paces, will ya!?

The internet has been a little bit goofy lately or maybe my modem, I don't know. I reset the modem twice while trying to post my last 4(yikes) photos just now. I am hopelessly behind on commenting. The bokeh theme was a great idea and I'm enjoying it. The work you're all doing is amazing and entertaining. I never Intended to stick to it exclusively, though. If there's a nice landscape I'm going after that.

The cold here like most of N. America has been brutal. The low temps at night are not necessarily extreme but it just doesn't warm up during the day.
The internet and the weather are conspiring against me this month. Time to hit send before it goes out again.

We've had two days of screwy internet this weekend. It's very unusual where I'm at to have the DSL drop, so they must be having technical problems. It didn't bother me much as I had a very busy weekend anyhow. Hopefully tomorrow I can get back to catching up on commenting.

A brief first week of use report from me. So far the lens and focal length (Revuenon 55mm 1:1.2 MC) has been a pleasant surprise. I do not enjoy the best eyesight in the world (read: I'm blind as a bat) so the K-01 has been an invaluable tool with focus highlighting. When I bought it I had an ambition to collect a few manual lenses but this is actually the first one. The lens itself balances very nicely on the K-01, not too heavy and actually surprisingly small. I have fitted a UV filter to protect the front element and a rubber Hoya collapsible hood that works well to combat flare. Boy does it flare! I like to shoot into the sun but that is a no go with this one. The bokeh is as expected the special trick, not creamy but special? I do not know how else to describe it. I have done a couple of landscape shots with it and it is very sharp in the f4-5.6 range. I think I will do more landscape with it in the challenge even though the bokeh part is a lot of fun. Shots at f1.2 are naturally difficult to focus, even on the K-01 and has a somewhat diffuse/dreamy quality. However files sharpens nicely though I suspect judging form that fantastic goat portrait that the Pentax A 50mm f1.2 is the sharpness king.

Lots of participants this month! Great! I might do a couple of "copy cat" shots later since imitation is the highest form of flattery

A quick update for me as well, I suppose.

The bad: I really, really am starting to get my hate on for the 135mm for deliberate bokeh work (I'm in the challenge for the bokeh more than the lens). It takes an obscene amount of planning or luck to spot something that can be framed and shot as I like to with it. I was about to give up on the thing except...

The good: I hit Explore twice with the lens, giving me my #1 and #2 'most views' for any photo I've shot in since joining Flickr back in '06 or whenever it was I started with them. My #3 for views has almost as much as them, but it required about 3 years of hits to pull that off. Obviously the lens has some sort of pixie dust going on for me that I am not aware of, because people are liking the results. maybe that goes back to my issues with having to really think out my shots with it - I'm forced to be good, because I dislike everything else about it? Who knows.

If you go by my "Top 10" interestingness shots over there, the 135mm now sits in second place behind the Sigma 10-20mm for rankings, which I suppose means its my second best lens, or at least the second best lens for me for success. (The Sigma has 5 shots out of the top 10, the Sears 135mm 3 shots, and the 18-55mm kit 2). FWIW, my gull shot also knocked my lightning shot off its pedestal as 'most interesting' for me, which is pretty impressive. I didn't see that coming at all.

So... I'm going to tough things out for a bit, though I may wind up stopping before the month is out due to shipping the camera off for long-needed repairs. The sensor is absolutely screwed on the camera and needs replacement, and I've been ignoring it long enough that my warrantee is starting to approach expiring in a few months which would leave me stuck in 'wide open' territory forever with the thing if its not dealt with.
