I recently learned the bird is flying, in this case to the left. I thought it was like a stork, in this case looking right.

Yes. I understood it to be flying toward the stalk, orange wings swept back toward an elongate, pointed tail, and with a rounded head, short neck and beak. HOWEVER: with four wings, maybe it should be called "dragonfly of Paradise flower." Birds are shown in paintings of Paradise, but are there any insects?

Big flower and big dill . . .

Two shots from K-1 and (adapted) Mamiya 80mm f 1.9N, said by some to be the fastest medium format lens ever produced.

That second one is absolutely excellent, and I love it to death. But I don't think it qualifies as "bigger flowers".

The Hibiscus persevere notwithstanding assaults by the deer and some mysterious insect which turns the leaves to lace.
This is one facet of a four-blossom group.

K-3 with the FA* 28-70. Must be a bigger flower to have all those bags on it.

that mystery bug is probably a Japanese beetle - they tend to mob our hibiscus; we grab them, toss them into a bag, then feed the chickens with 'em....

Ah-ha! I kind of suspected but haven't seen them. I'd better go out and get me some chickens.
