Ooh, gorgeous! An unusual peony, for sure. I like it very much!

A cluster of spider lilies. It started out as a single bulb, but obviously has created additional daughters.

Beautiful!

Apropos of nothing, did you know there are about a dozen different plants with the common name "spider lily"? Most of them aren't really lilies at all, different relatives of Amaryllis (which I think these plants are), Lycoris radiata, but they all have spider-y flowers. And they do grow larger and larger clumps as the underground bulbs reproduce. Whatever, they're gorgeous garden flowers.

Oh, that is nice. Simple, no eye catching colors, but somehow hits the nail.

I think you're right about being amaryllis as opposed to the lily family. Someone once told me they were naked ladies, but I was certain I'd not seen a naked lady like that, before...

ROFL! Believe it or not, there are, actually, garden flowers called "naked ladies", but they are definitely amaryllis. And, um, pink...

Beautiful shot! What type of ring light are you using?

Thanks very much. It's a Bolt VM160 LED. Kind of a mid-range unit, not the super-cheapo thingies made for cel phones, but not a break-the-bank studio unit, either. It has two modes, continuous LED (at 6 output levels) or flash, and it can be configured to illuminate left or right as well as full-circle. Comes in a kit with a bunch of attachment rings to fit in the lens filter threads, and several diffusers (which I haven't messed with yet). Fits in the hot-shoe, or on a little stand of its own. The little stand would be for mounting the control unit on a tabletop, the LED unit is strictly lens-mounted. Frankly I'm not sure why you would want to mount the control unit separately, the power cord is pretty short, very tightly coiled, but the whole rig is heavy enough that it might affect hand-held use. On a tripod, no issue at all.

I'm getting used to it. At first it was a little fiddly, because the power cable doesn't detach from either end (power unit or light unit), but I'm getting the hang of it. My personal preference is for the continuous LED mode rather than flash, I've never been a fan of flash unless it's studio-quality rather than on-camera, but I may play with the diffuser and flash.

Got it at B and H.
