A Rose of Sharon.

Taken with: One Canon EOS Rebel T5 body with a Canon EF-S 55~250mm, IS, II Lens.

Thanks very much for viewing.

Tony

Here is the info I eventually located for this guy/gal.

Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus) and Chinese hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) are cousins. Both are members of the mallow family, a large group of several hundred different plant species.

I think it's a "gloriosa" lily. Some species of them are native in southern Africa.

WOW, THANK YOU! Saw it in the garden of a friend- she had no idea what it was, or how it even came to be there. Neither did I. Gloriosa Superba it is , or Flame Lily and I gather it is extremely poisonous. I'll tell my friend.

You're welcome, glad to help when I can! Right, all parts are poisonous, tell her not to sprinkle the flower petals on her salads!
