Cactus flowers, hibiscus and bird-of-paradise, very difficult for any photographer to walk past without taking at least one shot.

Masses of flowers never look as good in a photo as they do in real life, nor does such a photo look as good as a close-up of a single blossom. Even knowing that, I couldn't resist an overall shot of this amazing planting of bird-or-paradise, and this is only a small part of it.

That photo looks good buts it's more the flow of the foliage.
I tend to agree with you. I wonder if a tripod and focus stack would help out.

Almost certainly yes, tripod = focus stacking would have brought near & far blossoms into much more satisfactory focus, even pixel-shifting (if the camera body had it, not in this case). However, when you're on tour with other people who have other priorities, you just grab-shot what is possible.
