Alpinia purpurata, this is the pink form of "red ginger". The actual flowers are pretty small, tucked inside the pink bracts, but they're almost invisible and this is the way the flowering display looks...

A potted lily from my wife's Asian lily collection.

KIT: K-1 and the Leica 35-70mm f 4.0 vario-Elmar-R macro. This photo demonstrates what I think of as the Leica look.

Very interesting, Paul. I had never heard of "surprise" lilies, so I looked them up...they're a real thing! Who knew? (you did, obviously ). Not really lilies, they're related to Amaryllis, and also sometimes called "resurrection" lilies. Beautiful! The color is so delicate!

Laelia purpurata (reclassified as Cattleya purpurata). This orchid is the national flower of Brazil, there are many color forms. It's so popular that there are entire orchid shows devoted only to this flower (and its color forms). From the Nikon archive...
