Well here is what I managed from my stills from last night of the moon. I had enough where I could push the saturation some and get a fairly nice mineral moon:

The best 79 of 157 shots of lastnight's moon
SMC A* 400mm F/2.8 ED [IF] + SMC A 2X-L converter
F/11 (effective), ISO 100, 1/100s
Developed in RawTherapee
Sorted and initial crop in PIPP
Alighned and stacked using Hugin
Further processed in GIMP
Nice one! And thanks for the explanation, always edifying.

A brief explanation of the process to create the image is common in the astro group so that others can learn so I tend to include it when posting astro images.

I got my new 150-450 out last night and 4x4'd up to a cool spot to catch the moon with the mountains of the continental divide. It was a good spot but there was some gusty wind and a low thick cloud bank close to the horizon preventing the moon with the mountains shot. So I grabbed this one of it in the clouds between wind gusts to see how the new glass renders the scene. Rendering looks good so I'll have to get a better composition next time.

There were lovely clouds lit by the moon that I wanted to capture. But it was nearly midnight, I was tired, and I didn’t grab the tripod. So we have here a weak moon, The atmospheric conditions weren’t great, The shot is heavily cropped, and this was an autofocus, handheld shot.

For autofocus that isn't a bad a focus and about as good I would expect.

A bit of working on my processing technique with my moon shots from Friday nigh. The best parts of the 100 best shots combined into one:

ISO 200
1/200s
f/10 (effective)
K-3
SMC A* 400/2.8 ED [IF] + SMC A 2X-L converter

The best parts from the 100 best shots out of 373 total shots.
Shots binned and sorted using PIPP
The 100 best combined using Hugin for alignment and Enfuse for contrast blending.
Initial development in RawTherapee
Final processing in RawTherapee

Nothing special, but a pleasing shot all the same. Just happened to look out the window and noticed the moon interacting the cloud structure at dusk.
