inhappy little bird

While walking along my road this little one was scolding me & the dog. Had fun getting a few shots of it, would not sit still & kept going from bush to bush and limb to limb and stayed mostly in the shady areas. My best guess is an indigo bunting female/immature male.
Best Regards, Bob

Very nice Craig. You got callistemons flowering now? Ours are months away.

No, Kunzea baxteri.

Planted as a 'Bird attracting plant', seems to work.

Indeed. We have kunzeas too, but must be a different species - ours have white flowers. And they only flower in spring/summer.

On first seeing this bird the day before, I thought it was a tacky, poorly painted statue of a bald eagle, sitting beside a neighbour's garden. Then it moved, and I realized it was something completely different; a newly fledged Turkey Vulture!

It's been hanging around for a few days, though I haven't noticed any adults feeding it. I wonder if it fell out of the nest too soon. It can fly or hop up to the height of the porch at least, but the first day my wife and I saw it ,it didn't do much more than walk or hop, and a little unsteadily at that .

A tighter crop from a shot taken from the same distance as the one immediately above, using my 55-300. I didn't want to go any closer and risk disturbing the bird, or trespass on the neighbour's yard.

The neighbour on whose porch it's sitting in these shots has since erected obstacles on this porch wall. Didn't work. It was back this morning , though it was gone when we passed by later in the afternoon.

We all know why those things hang around. Has anyone checked on the neighbor?

Never considered the adults to be any thing but very unattractive, but I agree with monochrome...that is one attractive youngster and the down feathers are beautiful. Looks like it is dressed to go to the ballroom. And gifthorse has a good point, is the entire family of the neighbor still around...
Best Regards, Bob

Sitting on the fence. A male Australian King Parrot in someone's yard in West Gippsland, Victoria. KP and 55-300 PLM at 300. Handy combination: 3200 ISO comes up pretty well with the KP, and the PLM can provide good resolution and pleasant bokeh. (X-posted from 300+ thread)

Incidentally, I am finding 4:3 crops often work well for bird portraits. Allows a little more negative space in front of the bird than the native 3:2 ratio does.

Carrion crow (Corvus Corone)

Just liked the sheen on the feathers... on this healthy looking specimen.
