Since my "Backyard" contains a small irrigation pond and borders a salt marsh, the majority of my bird shots are shore birds. Here is one from the other night. I was trying to get some diving Tern shots. Was not successful getting any entry shots but got an interesting exit shot. The tern actually did a barrel roll while trying to gain altitude.

I trust I'm not the only photographer who swears at warblers. I spent days trying to catch this )&%*# as he flitted from branch to branch in the shadows. Here's my best--if I'd caught him a fraction of a second sooner, you'd see the little ^&()#$% was sticking his tongue out at me.

warbler time

Been quite some time since I posted, or even took photos. Migration time so I've made a point to get out and face the challenge of shooting warblers. Here are several shots of the myrtle female and male.
Best Regards, Bob

Dave, in the last 2 days I can't believe how much I swore at the birds and myself. Took many photos of empty branches; back sides of birds; half a bird in flight; etc. And I love when they finally come down low on the branches but it's on the other side of the tree, or in the shade. Certainly lots of fun trying to shoot those tiny quick moving silly birds, but every so often I get lucky with a reward. I call it f & f time...frustrating & fantastic.
Best Regards, Bob

For years I didn't do much with photography. I've got more time now and I'm - sort of - rediscovering how much fun it is. As I've recently acquired the Pentax KP and want to try all my lenses again, I picked one of my faithful, old lenses today: the Tamron 18-250 f/3.5/6.3. Not very fast, but it served me well when I was suffering from RSI-like problems years ago as it's very lightweight. When the RSI problems went away, the lens was put away. Today I used it on the KP paired with the TC 1.4 and I was quite pleased with the results. Not only did it focus fast (nearly) every time, but I think the photos are quite pleasing as well. What do you think?

For 6 years this was my only lens. At the time I thought it was good - on 6mp it seemed so. But when I got a K-30 and DA-L 55-300, the superzoom was shown up at the long end. You've made a valiant effort, Lidy, especially using the TC, but I'd say you would get better results with any of the 55-300 models, even if you have to crop substantially.

Eastern Yellow Robin. KP + DA 55-300 PLM at 300mm.
