Our Aussie Ibis are never as neat and clean looking as those. Beautiful birds and well captured.

Thanks very much, Rod. I've never seen a "scruffy" ibis, although it wouldn't surprise me if there were some. Our local birds always seem clean and tidy as they prance about hunting bugs and whatnot in lawns and fields. We occasionally see the odd egret or heron in the neighborhood, too.

Didn't know about them before. The green feathers look so strange to me. Beautiful nonetheless.

Australian White Ibis, often disparagingly known as "bin chickens" here as they have very successfully adapted to city life by foraging in rubbish bins and litter left out in public, Pentax K5 & SMC DA 55-300mm f4-5.6;

I find all birds pretty even if they look strange.

We also get the Straw Necked Ibis here in Brisbane, I don't remember ever seeing them when I lived down south in Canberra and Snowy Mountains. Pentax K5 & SMC DA 55-300mm f4-5.6;

I think I previously posted these on Picture of the Week several years ago. Technically they weren't in my yard, but a small park half a block away.

The juvenile white ibis here have parti-colored plumage, with brownish bits here and there, not nearly as elegant as the pure white adult plumage. So they might appear scruffy for a few months.

This month a couple of species of kingfishers have included our backyard in their range. The blue winged Kookaburra is almost twice the size of the juvenile sacred kingfisher.

I love how you get the fine feather structures. Very nice! The 55-300 PLM is still on my list!

Thank Bruce. Three tips: proximity, proximity, proximity! (Plus a bit of finishing in Nik Color Efex Pro - the Detail Extractor filter is very good.)
