An Oriole! They're pretty rare here in the city. There was a lot of avian action going on this morning--mostly the robins starting to assemble in gangs--but I also heard a pileated woodpecker which I haven't for quite a while. I think they sense a change in the season.

And she blinked...

Luckily, she was hanging around long enough for a second shot.

Both with the SMC-K 200mm at f5.6 on a K-5

I might be trying for some Hummingbird shots soon, I had 3 fighting over a feeder yesterday but didn't get a chance for any pictures, not enough light.

Not specifically a yard bird, but I do see it in a neighbor's yard now and then, and one in my back yard, so I'll cheat just a little and post a Roadrunner here. On the road a couple of days ago.

I got this shot just after she nabbed a bug, but it's hard to see unless I crop it at 100%.

I think this one also might be a younger one, another was just up the road and was visibly bigger, and the males and females are usually about the same size, so this could be one of this year's youngsters almost full grown.

The neighborhood birds are starting to look a little raggedy.

Am I the only guy with a yard these days?

DA*200 ƒ2.8 with HD DA 1.4 TC. (280mm ƒ4)
400 ISO, 1/100s-1/500s ( AV mode), ƒ5.6

Anyway, today's endeavours.... First the regulars.... everyone knows the regulars,

The stealthy Nuthatch, point your camera at the feeder an wait for him to land, he's too fast to track.

The Blue Jays, there's a family of 3 and at least 4 or 5 others.

You can have as many Chickadee pictures as you want... and lots of different birds to choose from. They line up on tree branches waiting for their turn at the feeders. It works kind of like a 4 way stop sign.

And of course there's the rodents....

Earlier the same day, along the roadside.

The star of the day, I think this guy liked me....

Neat....

There's starting to be some fall colours in the yard here.

Got a couple of decent shots of the hummers, had 3 fighting over the feeder again today and yesterday.

A butterfly decided to visit too.

I moved my feeder closer to the basement window (aka blind). Cheaper than the DA200 or 300 for now.

Why didn't I think of that?
