A naturalist identified the European starling on the right as an adult non-breeding and the one on the left as a transitional (changing from non to breeding plumage).
The image was captured through the glass of a sliding door with a Pentax K-S2 and smc Pentax-F 1:4.5-5.6 100-300mm at ISO 1000, 1/400, f/6.3.

Sparrows in their pecking order, unfortunately these and blue/coal tits are as exotic as the bird life gets round here.

Red bellied woodpecker waiting his turn for the feeder. This is a younger one, and hasn't figured out that he is one of the bigger birds in the yard.

I feel like a stranger here. Every good shooting moment I've been off in the park. Good to see everyone is keeping up the excellent work.

K-3 and Tamron SP AF 300mm 2.8 LD [IF] and F 1.7x AF Adapter (510mm, ƒ4.5)
(there's an F 1.7x in the market place at a great price.)

640 ISO, ƒ5.6 AV (1/160s to 1/500s)

Using primes you have to guess what you are going to shoot. Right now I have a hundred or so Goldfinches out there.

When you set up for Goldfinches, even a little downy woodpecker fills the frame.

Haven't been in here for a good while so I thought I would share some yard birds that showed up in my yard lately. Goldfinches won't be here for another two months, but I've a few that I've never seen here:

First the Yellow bellied Sapsucker:

Sun kissed Palm Warbler:

Eastern Phoebe:

Now some from my usual visitors:

Male and female house finches at bird bath:

Blue Jay:

Tuffed Titmouse:

Red Bellied Woodpecker/Male:
