HA--got him!

These Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers are really a challenge! They're so quick, flitting from twig to twig and rarely in the same direction from one flit to the next.

Taken some years ago with a K100D Super and Tamron 70-300mm macro, no idea what it is but it's in my friend's back yard in Bayview, Cape town.

House bird

Every year the Phoebe builds a nest on a light fixture in the front of my house. In the photos you can see that the nest is only about a foot & a half from my garage door. And in the one shot you can see that the door is open. All day I had worked in the garage running a circular saw; an air compressor and an air nailer making plenty of noise. That dedicated bird would only leave the nest when I would walk outside, she did not seem alarmed at all by the noise. Some times I would peek out and see her perched on my truck. They are a pretty cool bird to have around.
Best Regards, Bob

Friends front yard in NZ has a feeder with minced peanuts and lard which attracts the Silvereyes: (K3 & DA55-300 HD) No cover and about three meters away so very used to company.

Update on my Robins, the mother has not been around today but the three young ones are hanging around. One of them has a crippled leg and spends most of the day on the ground, pecking at things but not really feeding. I am trying to get them to use the bird feeder as I have seen a rat hanging around as well as a pair of magpies.
The crippled one at last managed to get into the bird feeder!

That last shot just makes me smile. I think it's ready to be left alone

Skodadriver, awesome shots & nice story.
Three different pairs of these have nests around the yard, hope to get some shots of the young ones.

Best Regards, Bob

It's baby chickadee season! Perching on branches is hard... Yeah, I know, wrong lens again. I was shooting something else altogether when they showed up... (Heavily cropped)

I know what you mean about having the wrong lens on. When I have 2 cameras (1 for macro and 1 for birding), I think I need a 3rd. So I try not to "see" things I can't photograph.

Here's a red belly woodpecker trying to call it's baby out of the nest

Best wishes for you to have lots to shoot, while birds are young they seem to occasionally forget to be scared of things, then again they spook at anything sometimes. Like my focus confirmation beep!
