Read the comments about flying Chickadees after posting, dug this one up. Taken a couple of years back with the K-x and Vivitar 200mm, I got lucky...

Software ???

Ok, we are backyard birders. Part of the results are the camera used, part is lens quality, how about computer software? What software are you using? Asking as I want to get better at this.

Faststone, Photoshop Elements & Topaz Plug-ins but--to be fair to the software--I only have the vaguest clue when it comes to pp (as I'm sure discerning eyes have noted ;~).

I use Irfan View for all my editing, Gimp adds the watermark. I occasionally use Gimp to do sharpening, that's about one out of every 50 or 60 shots these days...everything else, usually just crop and resize, is done with Irfan View. None of these on this page got anything but crop and resize.

I use Photoshop elements for the browser/ organiser and Photoshop CS5 for editing.
I just use it for sharpening or a bit of noise removal, no real funky stuff. I am sure the programs suggested so far in this thread are all very capable

Thanks

This guy drove me crazy this morning: fast moving and required shooting perpendicular to the morning sunlight.
Also, I thought the ID would be easy but I'm struggling--anyone care to take a stab?

That's the one. I'm expecting to see them here any time now, common winter visitors, and usually let me get pretty close. The male has a little red stripe in the middle of the yellow area on top of the head.

Carolina Wren, common around here, this one was actually in a neighbor's yard.

Pine Warbler. Daily visitor to the feeder last winter. None spotted yet this year so far...

Carolina Chickadee, they grab and go so fast I rarely get a shot.

Tufted Titmouse Year round residents, been trying to get shots of them in the Magnolia tree lately. USually the first ones to the feeder

Northern Cardinal. Another year round resident, I'm sure they nested in a half dozen places around here but never found them

Envious

Billy, nice shots, I'm envious.you have sunshine and birds, all we have here are grey skies and snow this morning. First snowfall of the season so it's cold weather shooting from here on in.

K-3 - DA*60-250 with HD DA 1.4 TC. 8-- ISO ƒ5.6

I've been rearranging the feeders after two were taken down by bears, and we had an influx of mice caused by food from the feeders to close to the house... we aren't there yet, but we're getting there.
