Our winter has been so warm, our finches haven't even come to the feeders. We see them back up in the woods sitting in trees, 50 meters from the house, but so far they are finding enough wild food to keep them fed.

Yeah the El Nino this year has created some unique situations, I'm ready for it to return though! My waterfowl hunting friends this year all have been complaining that Canada wouldn't let the ducks go LOL. It was just too warm for them to leave until recently.

I didn't get much this morning the light is poor, and that kills detail, but there is some snow. That's always different.

This Goldfinch has been showing up at my feeder the past couple of days, trying to intimidate every bird that drops by for a snack...

The little bully again

Got a shot of a Blue Jay good enough for a close up crop

Sharing for a minute...

It's cold today -20º C, but, the colder it gets the more birds turn up at the feeders.

I tried the A-400 and 1.7 today, it was way to long. I couldn't get the whole bird in the frame, crazy shallow DoF. I did get a few small bird images though,

two is a few, right?

Then I took the 1.7 off for the larger birds... I didn't change the exif so don't get fooled, they are 400mm not 700mm

A common house sparrow enjoying the aftermath of the congregation refreshments after the service. Polony on the menu.

1000 ISO or 800 ISO, ƒ8

There was some sun today, and i felt like getting out, in the winter, you take sunny days when you can, even if it's -14)C. At least out in the band, I can come in when I'm cold. Todays sightings.....

Bird Identification Help

I'm 99% sure the one with the red cap is a Red bellied woodpecker, but I'm not sure about the other.
I thought maybe a juvenile red bellied, because they were both hopping around the same tree (doing some training with junior).

But after a quick google, I think it may be a Northern Flicker?

(I'm in NE Indiana, for a geographical reference point)

My guess is Female Northern Flicker, Red Shafted.

Lesser Masked Weaver, also enjoying the aftermath of the after-the-service refreshments.

So too the Common house Sparrow-this is the male.
