Dave, sorry to see that beautiful old tree fall. Many years ago, as I was "atv'ing" in the mountains, I came across a 4-5' dead snag, that was beautifully twisted up the trunk. I hauled it back here, set it up in concrete in my backyard, just for the birds. They love it, and it gives me photo opportunities. Not as grand as your old tree, however.

Welcome to the thread... and post away... despite being taken in people's back yards, many of the images here are better than more "in the wild" images. Although some of us have pretty wild back yards.
Thanks for the welcome Norm.
We have a mass of vines at the edge of woods about 100' from our deck and feeders.
Cardinals fill up on sunflower seeds, then sun themselves in the tangles.

I have some branches stuck in a flower pot near the feeders.

O.K. then, I went out for a bit today, the roof is totally off my blind and it's completely ineffective... I did manage a few shots.

That's history, I'm afraid--it fell over today. Here's the new view:

Ho! Sorry about that Dave !

This is for sure an "irremplaçable" stand and food source for the birds !

All the birds pics you took on it will however be archived on the Net for the eternity (well... .. of the Internet the way we know it now...)

In the meantime, I suggest you start pruning and cutting signs (like lovers do) into the bark on a big tree near by to accelerate the decaying process.... (just kidding!)

Hope you'll find a good alternative!

Those branches, and the tree Carol put up, Rupert would call cheater branches. I have one in my yard, it's stuck in a watering pvc pipe and it brings Blue Jays and squirrels and Mockingbirds and an occasional Cardinal to it. I spread peanut butter on it to bring them in. You've seen it if you've ever visited Rupert's squirrel thread.

Here are few from today and one or two from other days:

Immature or Juvenile White Ibis that visit my yard some times.

Female Northern Cardinal:

Two male House Finches guarding an immature while it takes a bath:

Red colored male House Finch guards immature in bath:

Orange colored male House Finch eyes water in bath, perhaps he's checking to make sure it's not too deep for the young one:

Northern Mockingbird caught with sap in its mouth:

This weekend is the Great Backyard Bird Count . I had to go to the nature center to take some photos as I don't really have a feeder setup where I live now.

And I never had Pine Siskins in my yard...

Wow, without that dead tree in the way, I can get shots of hawks clear across the valley!

All you need now is a small observatory with a really long telescope.

That's history, I'm afraid--it fell over today. Here's the new view:

I'd noticed in the last week or so that it seemed to be leaning to the south but thought maybe I just hadn't noticed before.
It wasn't windy today but it was rainy--which made the rotten branches heavy and the soil soft and the last roots with any structural integrity just let go.

Needless to say, we had to go down and check it out--here's Clara inspecting the trunk while Princess checks out the crater it left.

I knew it was going to happen sooner or later but this is going have a major impact on my life in photography.
It was back in April 2016 during a violent thunderstorm when a big tree came down with a very loud crash in my back yard. I believe it was a lightning strike and or intense wind that brought it down, not my resident pileated woodpecker who could not resist checking it out.

Nice set of images. That female Bunting is a striking looking bird, even though (I gather) the male gets all the attention. :-)

Thanks for the compliment Des!
Yes, the male is what everyone I've seen people like to get photos of, but it's not against the photography rules, to shoot the lesser half of our bird world. I'm hoping since the female has been here for a few days, I'll also get to see and photograph the male.

The Wren seems rather upset with the sap. Maybe ordering seconds, and it hasn't even cleaned it's plate yet.
