A white-crowned sparrow; tufted titmouse; and a baltimore oriole. My local flock of evening grosbeaks is down to 2 males and 4 females as near as I can figure. When the orioles came in addition to the rose-breasted grosbeaks, blue jays and black birds it got crowded enough that 6 of the evening grosbeaks left. Really curious to see how long they stay.

Best Regards, Bob

I was going to post one like your first image to ask for input on what it is. Now I know.

I told my wife, there are sparrows in the tree with little bike helmets on...

Funny that you say that, since I see it the same way...little bike helmets...

K-3 and Tamron 300 2.8 with the F 1.7x AF adapter (510mm, ƒ4.5)
ISO 200, ƒ5.6, AV mode

We did get spot of sun today. I wore myself out with the chain saw then sat in the blind for a bit.

First the new guys.

Male American Goldfinch

Chipping sparrow

I counted over 70 purple finches at the feeder at one time today.

When there are that many you don't have to settle for feeder images, you cn go for something that looks more natural.

One of the regulars.

A gang of Waxwings blew through the woods this morning. They were very active and kept their distance so it was difficult shooting. I'm always glad to see them though.

During migration, warblers visit the yard. All I have to do is stand in the shade and let them forget I'm there.

Cross posted in the 300 plus club, and K-3 images and the TC club and The Yardbirds thread.

My buddy Doug came in for a visit. He was camping in the park and dropped in. He was telling us about an oriole that has been hanging around his yard. I went through my long tail of woe about how when I first started shooting birds, I had some Orioles (when I lived further south. But, my lens was the Sigma 70-300 and I really sucked at handling the 300mm end of that lens. But in the 10 years we've been here, we never saw an Oriole. Well yesterday these guys turned up. Tess rushed to get the feeders out for them. Spring i slate and it's going to be up to our feeders to keep them alive for a while.

So I said to my buddy, I hope I get another chance to get an Oriole. And the very next day, voila. The universe is unfolding as it should.

Two male hummingbirds. Our female hasn't made it yet and we are worried.

So I was dithering about this morning when I look out the window an there's an Oriole on the hanger for the hummingbird feeders. My K-3 was on the kitchen table with the Tamron 300 2.8 and F 1.7x AG adapter on it, I had to shoot through the kitchen window, but what the hey.

Orioles drink from hummingbird feeders, who knew?

I managed few more shoots before he left. Hope he comes back.

Mean while, I got a few images of the regulars....

And my white crowned sparrows are finally back. All the other sparrows came long ago.

Down to 4 Robins in the nest (3 fit in the nest, 1 sits on top of the others). My wife and I believe the 5th learned to fly early and is out with the big birds.

Close up with the DFA 100mm WR, and a polarizing filter to cut down the reflection through the window

Not a very good photo but exciting anyway--my first ever sighting of a Yellow-Billed Cuckoo, not withstanding that I'm told they're fairly common around here.

Just as with the cedar waxwings at dadipentak's I had a small flock stop over for about 3 minutes and they stayed a good distance from me.
But I had fun with a homing bird in the blue berry patch.
Best Regards, Bob

They're a species of concern, and like to nest in secluded areas. I've only got pictures of one once, in a restricted area. Great capture.
