Some more of the locals.

Eastern Yellow Robin. K-3 + FA*300 f4.5

Olive Whistler (female or immature, not sure) K-3 + FA*300

Olive Whistler male. K-S2 + DA 55-300 PLM at 300mm

Golden Whistler, female. KP + DA-L 55-300 at 300mm. (The resolution on this lens belies its budget price.)

Little Corella in a little house. KP + DA 55-300 PLM at 300mm.

Crimson Rosella. KP + DA 55-300 PLM at 230mm.

Bertrand, a resident Grey Shrike-thrush. KP + DA 55-300 PLM at 230mm.

Gigantor, the bossy Red Wattlebird. KP + DA-L 55-300 at 260mm.

The first 5 are X-posted from the 300+ thread.
Great bunch of shots, Des! You get the most out of DA-L 55-300. I'm hoping, at some point to get a PLM myself, but you sure make the non-PLM sing! I've got the non-L, Non WR 55-300. I'll have to work on my technique. Good shots.

Sorry to hear about Orlando. It's really something to have the trust of another creature like that, given how humans have tended to treat so many of our planet's fellow inhabitants....

Thanks Bruce. It took me a while, but I worked out that the best way to use the DA-L at the long end was to shoot at f8 wherever possible, even if that meant bumping the ISO. The resolution is better and it is more forgiving in focus accuracy. Its resolution at f8 is very good. But it is well worth getting the PLM. It is better than the DA-L wide open at the long end, so less need to stop down. The bokeh is more pleasant across the range. HD coatings are a big plus. The MFD is shorter. It's more compact when retracted. AF is much faster. And it doesn't sound like a coffee grinder.

My feelings exactly. It's quite a special experience to have that connection with a wild creature. We take comfort from the view that he enjoyed seeing us as much as we enjoyed seeing him (and hearing his angelic voice).

Maybe the attitude has something to do with the stick he is apparently attached to.

Wonderful colors, and a great photo!
