Bottom of the pecking order - a magpie comes to be hand fed but undergoes a lot of pain from rival birds.

unusual

The yellow-shafted flicker is common here in the summer, but very seldom seen in the winter. This one seems happy to stay, been seeing it every day for over a month.

A riot of Laughing Kookaburras. KP + DA 55-300 PLM

Not laughing here. But their cackling territorial call is one of the best-known sounds of the Australian bush. Kookaburras are the largest members of the kingfisher family.

Thanks very much indeed Taks. As you can see, with the KP I'm shedding my aversion to high ISO. It gives a couple more stops compared to the K-3. Take the second shot: 210mm, f5.6, 1/100th sec, 6400 ISO. Shutter speed and aperture were already at the limit, so the only option (other than flash, which I didn't have out) was high ISO. Could not have done that with the K-3 where it's usually muddy beyond 1600 ISO. Even the RAW file didn't have much noise, but DxO PhotoLab does a good job in cleaning up what there was.

The difference from my shots seems more than just couple of stops So much detail on your 6400 ISO. I start loosing detail at 640
