I don't often post birds at feeders, but I wanted to get a shot of a Tufted Titmouse throwing seed out of the feeder, they throw out what they don't want. There have been some other birds and squirrels cleaning some of it up, but I guess it will pay to buy the more expensive bird food, rather than see half of it on the ground.

Nice shot Tom. Some of our parrots do this too. In fact the corellas sometimes just pick out the sunflower seeds and flick others out of the way in the process! It's often the millet seeds that are left when everyone has worked over it. My November through spring migration catalogue. We've seen three types of hawk, The Broadtails have returned that we saw last year, many Flickers and our Merlin's re once agains nesting nearby.

We've had a number of fatal window collisions too - a number of rosellas and, memorably, a young Collared Sparrowhawk. It seems to be mostly the youngsters. I wonder too about the ones that hit hard and fly away - some might succumb later.

Male Superb Fairy-wren (Malurus cyaneus) in breeding plumage. Taken through a window, while he took a moment out from attacking his reflection. KP + DA 55-300 PLM.



These gorgeous fairy-wrens are feisty little characters. They are also famous for their infidelity: The promiscuous life of the Superb Fairy-wren. Whether this is a reason why they are regularly voted amongst Australia's favourite birds is open to debate.
