James, this is one very well constructed floral image. A true beauty indeed and many thanks for sharing.

Hope this finds you well.

danke, mr tony, danke schoen.

Started to experiment using flash for flora macro shots, around 6-7 months ago. This image was one snapped using flash.

Honestly, it is all plain luck and trial and error be elimination, literally. by nature, not a flash-using person, primarily because find it very hard to grasp flash usage.

But there wasn't much choice.
If wanting to snap macro flora shots going at f11, f16 etc, got to engage in flash usage.

Coupled with fact that am primarily a jpeg shooter (only very recently starting shooting RAW, but, only using in-camera post processing thereafter, nothing else), so, am still groping around.

This is a very tiny flower, maybe 3-4mm across, if that.

Two kinds of wild Gentian growing within a few feet of each other. Taken with the GRIII on macro setting.

Fringed Gentian

Bottle Gentian

When I took the photo I was wishing I had found the flowers open but it turns out they don't open - bumblebees force themselves inside to pollinate.
