Gill-over-the-ground (AKA ground ivy), a very small flower about 3~4mm wide. Multi-image focus stack.

Lily stamens, almost as popular with photographers and hibiscus pistils.

Flowers from our garden

Couple flowers from our garden.

KIT: K-1 with Mamiya 645 A M 120mm f 4.0 macro 1:1. This Mamiya lens is close to the Zeiss Makro-Planar in sharpness plus it goes macro 1:1 without an attachment. It works nicely on the K-1 with an easily obtained adapter, but not on the Pentax 645 series of cameras owing to incompatible registry distances. Edge sharpness is great with no trace of vignetting since the K-1 and crop sensor cameras use only a portion of the Mamiya image circle.

In this deep crop these blossoms look bigger than their actual size of about 0.75 inches (~2cm)

Now that's interesting, Walt. At first I thought it was a reeeeeally sharp garden stake, but wait...the flowers are growing on it, so it must be a reeeeally sharp garden stem...ouch!

Photo taken in Africa, so I'm pretty sure it's a species of acacia with those big nasty spines/spikes/thorns

Hm. The flowers don't look like Acacia to me...Acacias are legumes, those don't look like typical leguminosae flowers to my (admittedly ignorant) eye. Will have to cogitate on this one.
