Yes , the bigger the lens = More movement = Less Sharp ...
A camera can compensate for movement so much , then the image begins to suffer ..
This is especially true of macro .. Little things made big , and the same goes for movement . A small amount is turned into a lot ...
Those who cant get a sharp image , should really check out the settings they are shooting at ..
Using a tripod ? But is it a cheap flimsy one ? Even just the shutter actuation can degrade an image if the zoom and circumstances are right ..

Dewman has experience and skill , and it shows .
He may be new to the forum , digital cameras , but not to photography ...
Every time Dewman posts a picture , I take the time to absorb the skill that was used to take the image .

Matt, I'm quite flattered by your comments and not sure I belong on that lofty perch you've placed me! Thank you for such kind, generous remarks. It's true, I'm not new to photography, but there's not a day that passes that I don't learn something new from the knowledgeable members that visit this site. I'm truly humbled by some of the remarkable photographs posted here.

Sir, that is an obvious attempt at phallic symbolism.... and you have succeeded quite well! Nice shot. A very odd plant.
Thanks for noticing

I agree that Dewman's photos are great, but pretty much all photos in this thread are quite good IMO! And regarding lens size - good thing the DFA 100mm is so compact!
Here is a hand-held macro. f2.8, ISO 2000, 1/100! Surprising its not more smudged, though it could do with a little more DoF, I guess

Soon to be a flower. These are dogwood buds, but it will be a couple of months yet before they open. Shot with K-5, 50mm f4 macro + 56mm tubes, Sunpak ringflash.

This one is imperfect, not quite sharp enough. Macro is quite difficult:

Pink Lilies and the Sears 135mm macro-zone lens

A specialized lens, to be sure, but the quality it imparts is very unique.

@Dewman -- I prefer your dreamlike rendering over mine -- very nice output from that old Sears

DOF is always a problem with macro shooting, and the closer you get, the thinner it becomes!

Yow'za! That's what I'm talkin' about! Superb! What a very interesting center on that flower. You have plants down under that I've never seen before. Nice capture, Matt!
