The Sears 60-300mm macro-focusing lens test photos.

A friend of mine, who is not eBay savvy, had me pick up a very nice, basically NIB Sears 60-300mm macro-focusing lens for him. I had it delivered to my house, thinking it probably had the Ricoh pin and needed to be removed before my friend attached it to his camera.

The lens arrived yesterday and it did indeed have the pin! The lens was a fantastic copy, clean as a whistle, still in the original box with factory Styrofoam insert. Very well built, all metal, vintage glass. After removing the pin, I decided to take some test shots with it. Here they are. The first shot was at about 100 yds., at 300mm. I think his $40.00 was well spent.

Nice capture, Sterling.

I hear ya' about the lack of incentive. The weather here in SW Idaho sucks. Cold rain and wind. Overcast skies with NO contrast to be found. But.... the skies are supposed to clear up a little - "partly cloudy" - tomorrow afternoon! No flowers to be had, other than the ones from the supermarket.... but I've just about worked that into the ground. I've got a few barns on my list of "possibles," so, if I'm lucky, I'll get some presentable clouds at sunset. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

You should have quite a few barns in your neck of the woods, eh? Any Amish farms around where you live?

My lack of incentive isn't just about flowers - just getting the ambition to shoot anything. Long story which I may start a thread in a different section.

Not many barns around here as I am deep in the mountains. But my in-laws live in a large Amish community which has great photo opportunities. The only problem is that we are only there during the noon hours when we visit with terrible overhead direct sunlight.

Bit of lens stacking :
Industar 50mm in front of a Pentax Kit lens .. ( If only the aperture was a few mm greater in diameter )

The Russian lens is M42 , I got myself a M42 - 52mm Adapter , so it just screws into the front of the lens ...
Just trying something different ..

Adapter was on Ebay !

Thanks for the explanation, makes sense now, and yes it is great to try different things, some combination might turn out to be fantastic, between you and Jean and maybe a few others, you definitely push the boundaries

Edit: Can you explain how you get on with focusing please?

Overcast sky is ideal to shot macro flowers, which will enrich the colors and show clearly all the details. Wind is indeed an issue.

I agree with overcast skies - I get nice saturated colors and good contrast.
