Some more with the DFA 100mm WR

I like the bokeh rendering of this lens, smooth and creamy

Red-fringed Peone

I've never seen one this color before. This was taken with a SMC Pentax-FA 100mm f:2.8 MACRO lens.... let me make that perfectly clear. I DO understand that ALL photos posted on this forum MUST be taken with a MACRO lens.... and I promise.... this one was! Really! I cross my heart and hope to die! A thousand needles in my eye! I can produce a witness if this goes to court! Maybe even two!

Silly boy, it's in your EXIF which lens you used. LOL And it's a great photo too. BTW, the tint comes from a flower on its way out. My white roseshave oddity too.

Wow! Now, THAT'S what I call sharp focus! I love stuff like this. Nothing.... let me repeat that.... NOTHING can or ever will replace good, sharp focus. No amount of unsharpmask can make up for lack of sharpness, in spite of what some folks think! Bravo. Very nice work.

Agreed. If I miss focus, I'll give it a shot as a B&W (has worked just a small handful of times), but usually just delete them. Makes me think harder about technique (or if I had too much coffee) the next time out

When I bought my first DSLR with Shake Reduction, I was somewhat reluctant to trust it, but slowly but surely, I've come to rely on it quite a bit. Not too awfully long ago, I NEVER left home without at least a monopod. Now, I frequently go "naked." As long as I'm not having the infrequent tremors, I'm usually good to go. But, nothing takes the place of my good old Targus Monopod!. A Walmart cheapo that works wonders for me.

Thanks for the kind comments. I use catch in focus for all my macro shots, and most of the time I use a flash, as was the case with this shot. It only takes a small burst of flash to help with the wind blur/movement/shakes and add to the sharpness. Also I've found as I get older I cannot hold a steady hand, so the flash and catch in focus helps a lot.

Very nice, bluestgringer!

I have the Vivitar 55mm as well and will have to give that catch-in-focus technique a try together with fill flash. Thanks for the idea.

I also have a Lester A. Dine 105mm, but I especially like the 55 for it's size and weight, not to mention that it was priced right.

By the way, what aperture are you using?

I find it very odd, being the curious cat I am, that I've never tried the catch-in-focus feature! Hmmm.... make note to self.....

Nice and pretty and sharp Dennis. TFS

I have a few from my last month Single in Challenge using the Tamron SP 90mm f2.8 Macro 1:1.

Smaller than a dime.

I use catch-in focus a lot now that I can't hand hold my camera much - more for the birds. Did a session the other day with our visiting Red-breasted Grosbeak but I didn't have the lens stopped down enough and hence not enough depth of field.

I'm using f16. My flash has power settings from full to 1/16, for macro I usually use 1/16 0r 1/8.

Here are a couple with K-50 and Vivitar 55mm macro at 1/180 f/16 ISO 100 and fill flash. Still have to try the catch-in-focus.
