That was the "Ec-L" mounted in a K-1; see comparisons at:
Focusing Screen
The "S" type as I understand it has no focusing aid built in, and is described as "super precision matte" finish on the prism side. I suppose that means that the surface is ground with a much finer grit than standard. I suggest studying the comparison pictures before making up your mind.
I had also put the same Ec-L screen in a K-50, that installation was smooth as silk, and it works great. I had a bit more trouble with the K-1, had to remove the factory installed metal shim and use FocusingScreen's thicker plastic shim in order to get the focal length of the lens-to-viewfinder to match that of the lens-to-sensor distance. You do have to check to see if that's correct, or the new screen will throw off manual focus. There's a picture of the setup I used in another thread, here's a link to my post, but I suggest you review that whole thread.
Will a different focusing screen help? - PentaxForums.com
I should think that a person with average mechanical ability should find the installation pretty easy, though the directions are hard to follow (being translated badly). The hard part (which wasn't all that hard) was getting the thing centered and properly calibrated. The only thing that really bothered me about it was having the camera open for all the time it took to do all this. Now I'm going to have to do another exhaustive cleaning.
