Wow, some amazing shots here!

I have to say, though, this was the most dangerous storm that caught me. It was a summer storm, came out of nowhere, but with very high winds right through the city streets. No impressive lightning, but I had to quickly drive off the street with my scooter and waiting in one of those pedestrian shortcut tunnels. Was simply too dangerous to drive. Nearby, some construction sites were damaged by the storm, debris flying all around.

Amazing lightning pattern there. Here's some lightning a little too close to my house:

A little scary... but not too scary to stop and take a picture!

Today I run into a veritable wall of water... it was like a cloud, but vertical and very dark... I've never seen rain that thick... a pity I couldn't take a snap as I was driving to work and didn't have a camera with me...

Rule 1 - always have a camera with you, even if it's just a phone.

Duh! actually, I had one of those... do photos made with smartphones count as well? let's try a crop...
Note: I edited out some reflections of the car for privacy reasons.

What were you doing in the car that was so private? It's difficult to convey rain on a photograph but that dark band certainly looks very wet. A photo is a photo, it matters not what it was taken with.

Not me, I edited out the reflection of the faces of those I was in the car with. Those were in the cloud part of the image so no detail loss.
Yep, it was!
Maybe it's easier to convey the idea with a "proper camera", but that's what I had with me...

Great thread!
I bought a cheap lightning trigger from eBay a couple of years ago but could never get it to work right so all my lightning shots are at night. I'm a part of the Triggertrap Ada Kickstarter so I'll be getting a new lightning trigger with that when they finally deliver. I was hoping to have it last summer but they have been delayed so I'm still waiting. Maybe I'll have it for the spring storm season...

Wow! those images (and especially the last 3) are simply fantastic!
Can't wait to see your next ones with the trigger from the kickstarter... it's pretty slick, if it really does what's written on the tin!

Excellent photos there Mattb.

Here are a few from Glastonbury 2014. For those who don't know it's a big music festival in England, renowned for great music and for not so great weather:
