I agree it's a great choice of image for the challenge... Your strategy really worked well! I went back through the image again with my usual steps but this time did two rounds of denoising really focusing on trying to get my best results between detail and noise removal, which then for me meant I didn't have to try the selective mask.... I think I achieved my best result so far, though I still prefer yours.

This challenge is just a fun way to encourage each other to develop our post processing skills. Don't let it be a source of stress. If you don't have the time or are having a difficult time deciding, just ask the second place entry (photodesignch) to take it over and select the next host. Adam had to resurrect this challenge a while ago because it had ceased to advance. I would hate for that to happen again.
