PP Challenge 138 - Butte Valley Panorama - Death Valley

I spent last Saturday night in the Geologist Cabin in Butte Valley in Death Valley National Park. The prominent feature behind the cabin is the Striped Butte.
This panorama series was shot at dusk. They need a little work to look good.

You can use one or all of the 4 RAW (PEF) files, but I encourage you to experiment with panorama stitching if you are not already familiar with it.

My favorite panorama stitching software is Microsoft Image Composite Editor. It does a great job and is free from Microsoft Research.

JPEG previews (They are in reverse order.)

(I got ahead and accidentally renamed the files as PP 139 1-4.)

Download from Mediafire:

PEF 1 - Simple File Sharing and Storage.
PEF 2 - Simple File Sharing and Storage.
PEF 3 - Simple File Sharing and Storage.
PEF 4 - Simple File Sharing and Storage.

I'll close the challenge when I wake up on Friday March 6th. That gives you about a week. Have fun! I look forward to your entries.

Went with mono

Post processing in CS6 to build the panorama, crop and straighten. Went to onOne Perfect Effects 9 to create the colour version, then returned to Photoshop for sharpening. Lightroom to tone down the noise as I had not applied all adjustments with masks (hence introduced noise). Returned to onOne PPS9 for the B&W conversion then created the jpeg for uploading in Photoshop. Will play with a colour version when/if I can get a bit more time to do it justice. Thanks very much for the opportunity to work on something unique for me.

First edited one in lightroom stretching the light en adding contrast saturation, twitched colours etc, then copied that to the others. Then the microsoft stitching software. Liked the shape of the setting so left it like that.

and another one, so they are not all elongated pano's.

PP Challenge #138 Entry

Arizona Dave,

The original is 12339 X 2606 and 25.56MB. Obviously there is quite a bit of reduction to post it here on the forum. If it does not violate any rules, here is a link for you, and anyone else that wishes, to view it in a larger size off site.

edit again: went about skinning the proverbial kitty another way, using the scaling tool.. here's the old one, for the record, and here's the old-old one...

ok one last time, I am pretty sure... a merger of my last two versions...

Thank you. Yours is nice as well. I also thought of a tighter crop of the cabin, but as Dave gave us all the ingredients for a nice panorama, I decided to keep as much as I could.

Looking forward to what everyone else comes up with. Let's make judging this challenge a real challenge for Dave!!

And a colour version

My preference for the colour version was finished with warm tones to keep with the desert vista.

I've been using the new version of ICE a lot this week. The new interface takes a little to get used to.
I love the new options for different types of projections.
I hate how glitchy it is. (Maybe it's just with my computer?)

They had another update this week v2.0.3.0 did you get that one too? 64-bit, right? I haven't noticed the glitches yet but haven't used it a ton and haven't tested the different projections out...

For some reason I can't get these pef's to download so lightroom can read them, so will give this round a miss.
