Latest update on the Dove construction project at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St Michaels, MD.

They are installing the framework for the work shed enclosure. This will make their life more pleasant but will make future photos more difficult.

Making progress on the stern. Building up the aft deadwood so they can finish up the aft frame installations. The transom pieces are being assembled in the Boat Shop.

The keelson is being installed as they work forward to start assembling the bow section.

One frame of a movie (shot on film) of us performance testing an Australian C-class catamaran (named Red Roo) modified with a controllable hydrofoil in the starboard bow. This was intended to allow us to control pitch and prevent pitchpoling and worked well. At least it did till the boat self destructed a few minutes later! This taken in the mid '70's and that's me in the middle.

Great contribution, Mark - are you able to share more.... As a non sailor it is interesting to note that the development work for today's foiled racing craft was occurring back in the 70s.

Some more frames from the film. Unfortunately, these are all scans of prints made from the original film at about the time the film was shot, so the quality is what could be achieved back then. Combine a handheld movie camera with being taken from a small boat moving at high speed through a chop, and we were lucky to get this. Add in prints that are 45+ years old and haven't aged well, and...
