Thank you for sharing again Richard. I can feel the pain for those owners - were they salvaged and repaired or did they get wrecked?

They were salvaged, but with some hull damage to the cat. The boats looked to be somewhat neglected in the first place. They looked like they'd been on a mooring for some time without much TLC. There was untreated rust on the ketch, but the solar panels looked OK. The cat just looked a bit neglected. The mooring ropes looked like they had decayed or chafed away. There was weed. I'm told that there are $1M+ boats around here that the owners have forgotten about.

I think that they could have been salvaged very quickly without much effort if the owners had acted quickly. They hadn't been on the beach for long and were still floating freely. We were in a lull. They didn't need a tug. Just take an anchor out in a small boat and the yachts could winch themselves off the beach.

Yup - the tyranny of maintenance gets on top of the most well intentioned - reminds me - I must wash the car soon. Thank you for the update.

Here's a thread that needs reviving.

A yacht rounding the lighthouse at South East Point on Wilson's Promontory, the southernmost part of the Australian mainland.

And here are some others moored in Refuge Cove on the eastern side of the Prom.

For a replica, she had a colourful history, including the tragic death of a member of the Christian family upon her loss: Bounty (1960 ship) - Wikipedia

Your picture put me in mind of this one: A yacht rounding the tip of Cape York, the northernmost part of the Australian mainland. *istDL2 with Sigma18-55 DC taken in 2006. If you look carefully you can read the tourist sign. The sign has been replaced twice in the 10+ years I have lived nearby, souvenired by tourists or shot with guns by vandals. Strange behaviour.

Thanks. One of those serendipitous moments.

Homo hiluxus is an evolutionary backwater. Most 4WDers/travellers are responsible but the few spoil it for the many.

I guess the island with the lighthouse is Eborac Island? Never been there but I've read about it.

Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez

Every year around october 1st, there is a huge sailing yachts gathering in Saint-Tropez, French Riviera.
Yachtmen compete in different regatas, from century old wooden goëlettes, cutters and ketches to modern Wally and America's Cup sloops.
It is a photographer's dream to go around, especially in windy days:
