Thanks for that heads-up, Yaki. I hadn't seen it, but I've posted in it now.

"Ginger," who having finished healing from an enucleation, had her stitches removed this morning.

Apologies for the focus in the first image; she moved into the light and was gone in a split-second!

Wishing her a full and speedy recovery! Cats are amazingly resilient, I'm sure she'll be fine soon!

Thank you so much Julie! Judging by her behavior today you'd never know there was a problem. She probably cares less about the missing eye than that she's finally free of the cone. She's only a year old, she's got a long way to go!

Cheers, Allan

Free of the cone...I'm sure of that! We've never been able to keep a cone on any of our girls...they either work it off (the soft ones) or freak out and we have to remove it. Give her lots of love, pretty girl!

Re-post of an image first posted years ago. An Egyptian sand cat (Felis margarita, but SFAIK they are not found in Margaritaville),compact little kitty, smaller and stubbier than most domestic cats. They are highly nocturnal, moving an average of 5+ miles each night looking for food (rodents, lizards, some birds and some poisonous snakes). As with domestic cats, they will kill even when well fed, but they bury what they cannot eat for future use. Daytime they retreat to a self-dug tunnel, quite deep, and they have thick fur covering their feet to protect them from the hot sand (evolved from Hobbits??). Because of their small size, nocturnal habits, rapid movement when hunting (they also crouch a bit on the move, keeping their belly close to the ground) they are not commonly seen and are difficult to study in the wild. They are known from Morocco eastward to Iraq and Iran, in the driest most barren desert areas primarily at oases. With a cute face, low-set, stubby ears (the internal ear structure is distinctly modified to pick up low-pitched, very faint sounds) and compact size they look appealing as pets, if you can accept never seeing yours except at night, and can provide it with a very large sand pit to dig a burrow, and are willing to let it roam over an area of 10 or more square miles nightly, and can put up with its ferocious do-not-touch-me attitude, try your luck.

I photographed this one in the nocturnal animal house at a zoo in Philadelphia. Difficult! Aside from being very dark inside the building, the cat was extremely active, dashing hither-thither around its enclosure. I was lucky to be in a good spot when it sat down for the briefest moment and turned to look at me, a face that seemed to me full of contempt and warning.

It looks sort of like a lion, but I am skeptical.

How fun! Kitty looks like he'd rather be kicking back at the lodge, though...
