Mine are usually at 1024 long side as they are linking from Flickr. Seems fairly reasonable.

Pam put one up today that's way over sized at 2,048px × 1,356px and that's way too big. I said I usually post at 1280 long size, but that depends on the shot because lately I've posted medium shots.

1024 on the long side for forum posts seems to work pretty well for me. I upload them to flickr at 2048 for those who like to look closer. Only rarely do I put full size jpegs on flickr.

Going to my cousins wedding tomorrow, not sure if I am taking my camera, but if I do it wont be with a 200mm manual lens. So the 22nd will most likley be a bust.

Take it anyway. Bound to be an opportunity for a long shot. 😊

Unless there is some other Aussie meaning for the term 'suck', you'd better take that back! (pardon the pun)

Exceptional is the word.

As for me and myselfie, not gonna happen today, unless you want to see one of me reacting to piercing pains on the side of my head from an ear infection that settled in this morning. Will try to take some kind of image here today, but not sure that's going to happen either..

1024 or 800 long side for me...... square crops are better at 800 max I reckon.

Belfies for over 40's should be 240 max.....

I do mine at 1024, but will admit on my 12" laptop I have to scroll to see even that, but wouldn't expect people to post smaller these days.
Same.

When I started in SI, the PF stated maximum was 1Mb max, or 1024 by 1024, using PF's own gallery system, so I just stick to that nowadays. For a while I was posting at a maximum of 700Kb, but I have no idea where I got that figure from.

Several forums to which I subscribe have implemented an automatic resize if the image is larger than a fixed limit. The image appears in a box which is clickable to render it in full size if the user so desires. By doing this they have eliminated the problem of images blowing out the formatting and users having to scroll left and right to read the forum comments. I realize it would require modifications to the forum software but perhaps it could be added to a maintenance list for future implementation. Alternatively the width of the text could be constrained to a fixed column width, then it wouldn't be affected by oversized images. Seems to me it would make the forum experience more pleasant and the moderators' jobs somewhat easier.

Sorry guys...I had no idea that I was a size offender! My workflow is to export the photo from Aperture to the iMac, upload it to Flickr, then link it to PF. Do I need to reduce the size when I export from Aperture to the iMac or do I need to choose a smaller size in Flickr when I link to PF....or both?! Thanks!

As far as I can see there is no problem at all Pam. On my computers, your images hit the Forum at 1024. I don't know what Mar is seeing.
You can upload to flickr at any size you damn well please

I agree, store what you like in Flickr and just select the display size you want when you copy the link. I always store mine at full size in Flickr.
